(Utakata)" Lyrics + Romaji + Translation

(UTAKATA)

"Foam"
(symbol of ephemerality/transience)

by Kagrra,

negai wa anata ni furisosogu
My wishes rain down upon you

sotto kanashimi wo koete
Gently crossing beyond sorrow

itsuka futatabi deaeru to
If we can meet again someday

naiteita anata no yokogao omou yo
I will recall the side view of your crying face

yururi toki wa nagarete
Little by little, time flows by

haruka mukashi no koto wo omou yo
And I think of the distant past

The star I saw that day shone brighter than anything else

eien wo tashika ni kanjite
And I felt eternity so strongly

negai wa anata ni furisosogu
My wishes rain down upon you

sotto kanashimi wo koete
Gently crossing beyond sorrow

itsuka futatabi deaeru to
If we can meet again someday

naiteita anata no yokogao omou yo
I will recall the side view of your crying face

dakarete hakanaku chitta omoi wa
The feelings that were embraced then fleetingly scattered

azayaka ni sakihokoru hana no you
Are like vivid flowers in fullness of bloom

sugiyuku kisetsu wo ikudo megureba
How many times should the passing seasons recur

kono koe wa anata ni kikoeru darou
For you to hear this voice

deai soshite wakare wo
However many meetings and farewells

ikura kurikaeshitemo nagareru
Recur, you overflow in my heart

namida ni itsu no hi ka oborete shimau hodo
So much that someday

mune no naka anata de afurete
I might just drown in these flowing tears

(In this part, the order of phrases was completely switched around to make it make sense.)

negai wa anata ni furisosogu
My wishes rain down upon you

meguru unmei no hate ni
At this moment, I sing this feeling of belief

itsuka futatabi deaeru to
That we can meet again someday

shinjiteru kono omoi wo ima utatteru
At the end of recurring destiny

(Second and fourth lines were switched around)

dakarete hakanaku chitta omoi wa
The feelings that were embraced then fleetingly scattered

azayaka ni sakihokoru hana no you
Are like vivid flowers in fullness of bloom

sugiyuku kisetsu wo ikudo megureba
How many times should the passing seasons recur

kono koe wa anata ni kikoeru no
For you to hear this voice

(FYI, the part similar to this part ended in 'darou', while here, it ends in 'no'.
This is because 'darou' is used when thinking to oneself while 'no' is more like actually asking the person, so I guess Isshi was advancing a question-to-oneself to a question-for-the-loved-person.)

tatoeba kono se ni hane ga arunara
If there are wings on this back

tabidatta anata wo oikakete
I would follow you who departed on a voyage

togireta kioku no ito wo tsunagete
And tie together the broken thread of memory

mou ichido anata wo dakishimetakute
For I wish to embrace you once more

negai wa anata ni furisosogu
My wishes rain down upon you

sotto kanashimi wo koete
Gently crossing beyond sorrow

  1. I finally understand why this song haunted me from the first time I heard it. It's a part of my spiritual journey. This song and its meaning is a masterpiece!

    Thanks for a great translation.
