絶望の旗 (from the single 'Koi ni Ochite')
zetsubou no hata
The Flag of Despair
arehateta daichi ni tanabiku ao
A blue color stretched across the dilapidated earth
zetsubou yori fukai kibou
A hope deeper than despair
iku ate naku tada samayou kage
A shadow that merely wanders with nowhere to go
kuchikazu de umeta fuan
An anxiety that was buried by the number of words
tatta hitotsu no sono shirase matte
Waiting for that one piece of news
Today, also, we cling to the present
jidai wo uramazu kimi wo kiru
And without blaming the era, cut you down
kakageta hata ni wa musuu no kizu wo
Countless wounds to the raised flag
modorenai hikari ni sayonara wo
Farewell to the light that will not return
hajimari no ichidan tamerau yuuki
The first stage of the beginning, hesitating courage
ano toki doushite
That time, why...?
senka no saki ni wa nani ga aru no
What is beyond the fires of war?
shoujo no toi ni wa yume to
At the little girl's question, I replied 'Dreams'
damashi damashi no ue de kizuita shiro
The castle that was built with the hunger of deceptions
moroku hakanaku soredemo shinji nuita
Fragile and ephemeral; and yet, he kept believing
tomi wo oikaketa ano hito
That person who chased after riches
machi ni nari hibiku shuushifu no koe ni
At the voice of termination that echoes in the town
tebanashi de yorokobu hito wa naku
There is no one rejoicing freely
korekara hajimaru yousha nai hibi wo
The merciless days that will begin from now on
nagasugiru michi wo
The road that is too long
kakageta hata ni wa musuu no kizu wo
Countless wounds to the raised flag
modorenai hikari ni sayonara wo
Farewell to the light that will not return
hajimari no ichidan tamerau yuuki
The first stage of the beginning, hesitating courage
ano toki doushite
That time, why...?
arehateta daichi ni tanabiku ao
A blue color stretched across the dilapidated earth
zetsubou yori fukai kibou
A hope deeper than despair
EXPLANATION
I presume Mao's talking about how this lord-character-guy-thing waged war on some place, made it into a 'dilapidated earth', and built a castle on that, but none of the citizens are happy because they're just being used and they get nothing out from the war, AND a lot of people were killed? Yet there is still hope because there is life, represented by the color blue? Well, that's how I read this.
